Eliminate the State Sales Tax on Food Without Gutting the Budget
- Fiscal responsibility is a staple of being an effective school board member and state Delegate. In the 2009 General Assembly, fully a third of the Democratic House caucus co-sponsored a bill that would have eliminated the state sales tax on food by raising the individual income tax on the wealthiest .4% of Virginians making more than $400,000 a year by just 1%, ensuring the money generated by the tax (earmarked for education) was not lost. This bill died in committee. As your delegate, I will co-sponsor this important bill and fight for it’s passage.
