Virginia under State of Emergency to deal with record breaking storm
Posted on February 5th, 2010I was looking forward to talking with you at my town meeting. While the snow is lovely, postponing our meeting is a disappointment. Please put our rescheduled town meeting on Feb 20th from 10 to 12 at Belvedere ES on your calendar now!
Because the Governor has declared a state of emergency, the State Police and VDOT are sending constant updates to all members of the General Assembly describing road conditions and storm severity. Fairfax County officials are monitoring Fairfax road conditions and alerting VDOT to potential trouble spots. If you observe that your neighborhood roads are particularly hazardous, you can contact VDOT at novainfo@VDOT.Virginia.gov. You may copy me at delkkory@house.virginia.gov to request that I follow up on your concern with VDOT.
VDOT posts answers to common questions about snow removal and the department’s priorities in dangerous winter weather at www.virginiadot,org/travel/snow.asp. While VDOT strives to have most roads clear for safe travel within 48 hours, interstates and primary roads naturally have the highest priority.
Current weather and traffic reports are available at www.511Virginia.org.
Stay inside; keep safe and warm until the snow slows on Sunday.
